State of the Art 1B

State of the Art is a term we all have heard a lot more lately. Most of the time this term is basically and will always be refering to the current most frontier AI model.

In the past few weeks I’ve got this new mindset regarding AI usage. AI is like a calculator, it’s an amazing tool. It can help us do complex calculations in seconds. But the problem is, what happen if you gave a child a calculator before they understand how to do multiplication? Suddenly, an amazing tool become a very bad one. The same thing happens with AI. AI is amazing, but if the person using it doesn’t know how to get that answer in the first place, then it’s a bad thing to use it.

This is what happens to most people, AI allows them to get there but at the same time skipping a major fundamentals. With that issue in mind, I’ve been thinking to do a one year long experiment to myself.

The premise is simple, one year 100% without AI. What classify as AI here is an LLM like Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, etc and also including generative-art AI model, for example Stable Diffusion and Suno AI. The only exception here is AI-based content recommendations feed algorithm that basically used in every social media these days, it’s allowed since I can’t really control it.

In doing this experiment, I want to answer these question for myself:

  1. Will I be smarter?
  2. Will my logic get better?
  3. Will I survive without it?
  4. A bunch more questions

You might be wondering why the title of this blog post contain 1B, that’s because this is not gonna be the last time for me to post updates on this experiment. I’m planning to start this experiment sometime on June or July this year.

So for one full year, I’ll be living my daily life without any AI tools to use at all, including AI for coding, studying for school, and even Google Search AI Overview.

At the same time, I don’t know if this a wise or stupid experiment to do. That’s why I need more time to think about it before executing this experiment.
